Love VS Eas - manga version.
Due to a combination of time + effort + filmsy Japanese skills, I’m not going to translate the entire remainder of the Fresh manga. I am, however, going to do some choice scenes so you can all cry hysterically with me.
I think it’s really interesting, seeing the manga’s take on this scene — while it’s a lot more cookie-cutter than the anime version, which I found very subversive and unique, it’s still effective and in-character, and of course, makes me cry a million Love/Setsuna tears, meaning it’s served its purpose well.
And just. Love transforming ON PURPOSE so that Eas would go all out on her, wanting her to take out all her anger and bitterness and hatred on her, completely one-sidedly. And she just calls her name out, over and over again, in the desperate hope that’ll make her open her eyes and see who she really is.
Also, cutting off Eas’s monologue before she could say ‘jealous’, so we’re just left with ‘I ____ you’. I don’t even know what purpose that was meant to serve other than make this scene even gayer, but I sure as hell ain’t gonna complain. And then her inner thoughts while they hug? JESUS CHRIST HOW IN LOVE ARE YOU, I AM SO DONE, FOREVER.
One change I thought improved on the anime was that Love didn’t need to tell Bukki and Miki to stay back — Bukki realized it on her own, that this was what Love needed to do. And after thinking about it for herself, Miki understood, as well. It indicates a really deep understanding between the three of them, I really like that. Setsuna’s complete lack of self-worth being textually acknowledged is really nice, too. I’m kind of wishing the anime did it now, too.
There’s two pages after that I didn’t translate, as they’re identical to the anime. You know how the rest of it goes!
